ABI provides many other benefits to its members that contain information on consumer bankruptcy issues or are otherwise of interest to consumer bankruptcy professionals. For example:
ABI posts daily headlines on its homepage, many of which address issues of interest to a consumer bankruptcy professional, such as the current mortgage crisis and legislative developments. You can sign up to receive a daily email with these headlines as well by subscribing to ABI Headlines Direct. Headlines are a benefit of membership.
The ABI Bankruptcy Blog Exchange tracks more than 20 blogs about bankruptcy-related issues into one convenient site. As an entry is posted to any participating blog, it appears on the ABI Bankruptcy Blog Exchange with the name of the blog, the blogger's name and the topic title. The Consumer Law Blog is a participant, and many of the other participating blogs discuss hot consumer issues every day. The Blog Exchange is free to all visitors.
ABI provides information on U.S. bankruptcy filings each quarter. ABI members receive information about these important statistics on the day they are released from the U.S. Courts via ABI's electronic newsletter, the ABI Update. At this link, you may view filing statistics from 1980 forward by quarter, by year, by district, by state and by chapter, and there are also breakdowns for business and consumer cases. This section is free to all visitors.
ABI has 22 active member committees that produce electronic newsletters, present educational programs at the Annual Spring Meeting and the Winter Leadership Conference, conduct relevant special projects, communicate on an active list serve, organize networking activities and provide many other important member benefits. One of the committees is the Consumer Bankruptcy Committee, and many of the other committees also address consumer bankruptcy issues periodically. ABI committee membership is free, and you may join any committee by going to that particular committee's homepage.
ABI is the "go-to" source to keep up to speed on Congressional activity directly and indirectly affecting the bankruptcy arena. With the current mortgage crisis and rising household debt, these issues are of extreme importance to the consumer bankruptcy professional. On our home page, you can view descriptions of relevant pending bills and new law from the current Congress and link to the actual text of the bill or law. Further, at this link, you can view a hearing archive for the current Congress which lists the date of every hearing, the committee and the hearing title, and provides access to the written testimony. You can also view information regarding past Congresses and other relevant legislative topics. This section is free to all visitors
ABI has over 70 podcasts of conversations with interesting figures in the insolvency world online which anyone can download to their computer or iPod for no charge. Many of the conversations are with consumer bankruptcy professionals or discuss topics of interest to the consumer bankruptcy professional. For example, there are podcasts discussing the mortgage crisis and with leading figures from the NABT and NCBJ. ABI posts one or more new podcasts each month.
ABI offers the Bankruptcy Code online free of charge. It is searchable by word or phrase and has hyperlinks within the text to other code sections.
